The MW4 welding system has many unique
features for successful welding. These include a precision double-acting
pneumatic cylinder for controlled variation of top electrode thrust via
a low-inertia electrode system and an easily replaceable electrode
holder. It has a rigid main frame of welded steel, eliminating on-load
electrode deflection and a secondary welding loop designed for maximum
welding power. The transformers, either air or water-cooled, are
designed to give high output welding current for minimum mains demand.
The MW4 has a medium size frame and includes 19mm electrodes.


Water cooling options are available depending on application, ambient temperature and duty cycle.

Weld control comprises of a standard package featuring 5 independent programmes, 1/2 -100 cycle, upslope, pulsation mode, dual weld facility, squeeze, hold, cool, weld On/Off and mains isolator. Digital synchronous weld timing gives accurate repeatable weld periods resulting in minimum transient conditions and improved welds. Alternate half cycle is included for the welding of precious metals and special applications. High resolution heat control is provided, combined with a three position tap switch giving extremely fine adjustment of weld current over its entire range.

An alternative advanced timer/monitor can be supplied which has full SPC capability and 16 separate weld programmes with upslope, dual heat, internal storage for 8000 welds and many other features.

What is Resistance Welding?

Resistance welding is the science of joining two or more metal parts together in a localised area by the application of  heat and pressure.

The heat is produced by the resistance of the material to carry a high amperage current.
   
The greater the path of resistance is, the higher the heat intensity.
This heat is controlled via time application and level of current applied.
   
The pressure is applied to forge the joint and consolidate the nugget to provide the weld strength.
    
No extraneous materials such as rods, fluxes, inert gasses, oxygen, or acetylene are required.
